Spring Maintenance Tips for Your Business

For many of us, Spring is one of the most exciting times of year-

The weather’s getting warmer, folks are enjoying being outside, and there are squirrels everywhere! Ok, that last one was just for any dogs who may be reading…

Spring is also a great time to make sure your business is ready for the busier months ahead by taking care of some basic maintenance to-dos. Here are five tips to help you get started:

  • Spruce up your exterior – The ravages of winter, with all its snow, mud, and rock salt, can leave your building looking a bit shabby. A few passes with a pressure washer can make your outside walls look fresh. This is also a great time to take care of any landscaping work that needs to be done, before the trees and shrubs really bloom. And, of course, a good window cleaning can get rid of any grime build up and replace it with a gleam that says ‘open for business!’
  • Check your HVAC system – Your A/C system has likely been, well, chillin’ through the winter, but as the weather warms up you’ll need it to be ready to go. Cleaning the hoses, clearing out ducts, checking drain pans for any mold buildup, and installing fresh filters will help keep you and your customers nice and comfortable.
  • Inspect the roof and gutters – Your roof bears the brunt of winter storms, so this is a good time to make sure it’s in good shape and repair any damage. While you’re at it, make sure any gutters are clear for those impending April showers!
  • Take stock of your stockroom – Even if your customers can’t see it, a clean and organized back room is still important for putting your best foot forward – it’ll make your operations more efficient and as a bonus it will improve morale for the staff who have to work back there.
  • Make that floor shine – All the muck that gets tracked in during the winter can really do a number on the floor of your business. A good mop and even a once-over with a power washer can make the ground your customers walk on look brand new. Don’t forget the baseboards!

No matter how well you take care of your business, Spring is also a great time to revisit your Business’ Insurance Policy. Pandemic restrictions, Supply Chain issues, Summer Wildfires and many other contributing factors have made value assessments much more volatile over the past two years, and your policy limits may no longer be in line with the realities of the market.

Of course, as any business owner knows, maintenance is important year round, but with these steps you should be well on your way to putting the ‘Clean’ in Spring Cleaning!
